Vietnam reopen visa application (e-visa & visa on arrival) for citizens of Portugal starting from March 15, 2022

Updated: 07:01 PM - 14 Nov,2024

Over the past few years, the world was put to a standstill when the deadly virus known as Covid 19 has started spreading very rapidly. In order to protect its respective citizens and curb the spread of Covid 19, world leaders have decided to close their respective borders. In Vietnam, the country has stopped accepting International flights and has temporarily cancelled visa issuance. Thus, all foreign visitors, including those from Portugal, have no choice to but to postpone or cancel their trips to the country.

Thankfully, the visa suspension is only temporary. Vietnam has started accepting visa applications once again.  Now that everything is trying to go back to normal, the country is hoping to invite more foreign visitors and lift its tourism industry.

Vietnam E-visa for Citizens of Portugal

Portuguese citizens are required to have a visa before they can get into Vietnam. Thankfully, applying for a Vietnam visa is now so easy, thanks to the Vietnam e-visa. This is an electronic visa that you can easily acquire online. All you need to do is to fill out the application form, submit certain requirements, and make a payment. Once this visa is approved, you’ll get it through your email. You don’t need to claim it from an embassy or anywhere else. Thus, everything is truly convenient.

It’s a good idea to have your passport with you when applying for the Vietnam e-visa. You’ll be required to provide some important details from your passport so make sure you have this ready. It’s also important to secure a scanned copy of the passport’s bio page. If you don’t have this, just take a photo of the page and upload it on the form. Be very careful with entering your information. Make sure the spelling is correct or your application could be denied or delayed.

Make sure you have your card with you because you’ll be asked to pay for the processing fee. Aside from card, you can also pay with your PayPal account. When you’re done paying, submit the form and wait for a confirmation that the visa application is received.

Vietnam Visa on Arrival for Citizens of Portugal

Another type of Vietnam visa that Portuguese citizens can avail is the visa on arrival. As the name goes, this visa can only be claimed in Vietnam when you arrive. But before you fly to Vietnam, you’re required to register in advance. Then you will be given a pre-approval letter that you need to present at the visa counter before they will stamp your passport with this visa. You’ll also get a blank application form your visa, which you need to print and fill out in advance.

Upon arriving at the airport of Vietnam, look for the counter that says Visa Landing. You will usually find other foreigners lining at the counter, so queue along with them. When it’s your turn, give your visa requirements. Aside from the pre-approval letter and application form, you also need to submit passport-sized photo, and of course, your passport.

Wait on one side while the officer processes your visa. Once it’s ready, you will be called back to the counter. You need to pay for the $25 stamping fee in cash. Then they will give you back your passport. Check the passport and you’ll find the visa sticker in it.

Things to Keep In Mind

Remember that the e-visa will only allow you to enter the country once, since it’s a single-entry visa. Also, the maximum stay is 30 days only. But if you need a visa that’s good for multiple entries, the visa on arrival is a good choice. This visa will also let you choose the length of your stay, whether it’s 30 days or 90 days. However, the visa on arrival is only applicable for those who are passing through the airport. Visitors who are traveling by land or sea should get the e-visa.

Portuguese travellers who need help with their visa on arrival should consider using the Fast Track Services. With this service, a representative will come to meet you at the airport and assist you with your visa processing. The best part about this visa is that you’ll be passing through the fast track lane that’s only reserved for VIP passengers. Thus, you can get your visa fast and easy and won’t have to spend a long time at the airport to queue for your visa.

If you are flying to Vietnam anytime soon, you better apply for your visa as early as now. After the temporary suspension of the visa issuance, Vietnam is expecting to receive thousands of visa applications in the coming weeks. So to avoid delays, you should apply for your visa at least two weeks ahead of your trip.
