Vietnam reopen visa application (e-visa & visa on arrival) for citizens of Netherlands starting from March 15, 2022

Updated: 08:17 PM - 22 Dec,2024

During the height of the coronavirus pandemic from March 2020, the travel and tourism industry has been badly disrupted. In order to stop the spread of the virus, airlines have to cancel flights and some countries have stopped accepting foreign visitors. Vietnam, for instance, has decided to stop issuing visas temporarily until such time that the situation will be under control.

Thankfully, the suspension of the visa issuance is only temporary. Right now, Vietnam is issuing tourist visas once again hoping to invite more foreign visitors into the country. Visitors from the Netherlands can now come to the country for a holiday. Here’s how to apply for your visa.

Do Dutch Citizens Need a Visa to Vietnam?

Citizens of the Netherlands need a visa before they can enter Vietnam. When it comes to their tourist visa, they will have two choices – the e-visa and visa on arrival. Both visas are easy to apply. In fact, all you need to do is to send in your application online. You don’t have to leave your home to visit an embassy or go somewhere else.

The first type of visa is known as the e-visa, a shortened term for the electronic visa. It is called as such because this visa can only be applied online. You just need to fill out an application form and you’re good to go. If the visa is approved, you will get it online as well. The file will be in PDF form and all you need to do is to download it and print. Then bring the file with you on your trip to Vietnam. This visa will let you stay in the country for a maximum of 30 days and is only good for a single entry.

On the other hand, the visa on arrival is a type of visa that foreign visitors can get upon arrival at the airport. But to avail of this visa, you need to register in advance. After you register, they will email you a pre-approval letter. During your registration, you will be asked to choose between a single entry and multiple entry visas. You get to choose the number of days as well, which is either 30 or 60 days. Thus, this is a good option for those who will be staying in Vietnam for longer than one month.

How Can Dutch Citizens Apply for the Vietnam E-visa?

The e-visa is the easiest type of visa that you can apply. In fact, it will only take a few minutes of your time. Below are the steps on how to get the e-visa.

  1. Open the website for the online application form. Provide all the information that is being asked from you. Make sure you enter everything correctly. Double-check the spelling of your name and other important details.
  2. On the next page, upload the requirements. Provide a scanned copy of your passport’s bio page and your passport-sized digital photos in jpg format.
  1. Next, prepare your card to pay for the visa-processing fee. This will cost you around $25. You can also pay through PayPal. After you submit the payment, you’ll receive a confirmation email.
  2. After only 3 – 5 business days, your e-visa should already be available. It will be sent to you through email. You can download the e-visa in PDF copy and print it out.

How Can Dutch Citizens Apply for the Vietnam Visa on Arrival

For those who need multiple entry visas to Vietnam, the Visa on Arrival is what you should get. This visa will also allow you to stay in the country for up to 60 days. Below are the steps on how to get this type of visa:

  1. First, register online by answering the visa application form. Provide your complete name and other important details. Submit the form.
  2. After a few days, you’ll receive an email that contains the pre-approval letter. It will also come with a blank application form. Print both documents. As for the application form, fill it out in advance.
  3. Once you arrive at the airport of Vietnam, look for the counter that says Visa Landing. Then give the letter, application form, photos, and passport. Prepare cash to pay for the $25 stamping fee.
  4. You’ll be asked to wait while they process your visa. Once your visa is ready, they will call your name and hand your passport back. This will already have a visa sticker in it.

Take note that the visa on arrival will only be suitable for those who are flying into Vietnam since it can only be claimed from the airport. If you are entering through the seaport or land border entry points, the e-visa is what you should get.
